Project Update!
Hello Dearies,
A Game of Cat and Moose is officially out! It feels very strange to know that people do have a copy of my book. They may or may not even be reading it. And unless someone messages me or leaves a comment I will never know. It’s maddening and I did not consider this side of my publishing journey. A huge thank you to everyone that pre-ordered or supported me on the day. If you have read my book it is highly encouraged to leave an honest review. It is one of the best ways to support me (outside of this Substack) and make sure other people get to see that I exist.
Right then, on to the next. Let’s see what I’ve got in my drawers.
You may have noticed that this Substack is a little late. That’s because the next big thing on the docket is the release party at Dice Drop Tavern! All the details are confirmed and it is happening! Not only is this a great way to support me, but there are other goodies as well! You can get a signed copy of A Game of Cat and Moose, support a new local gaming bar, support other indie crafters and small business owners, and meet other bookish pals.
AT THE SAME TIME!
Now, you might be wondering, “Hmm, why is Lavender Penner the paranormal romance author partnering with a D&D bar?” Excellent question! I’d love to answer it. It is partially because I am shameless and will support any and all of my friends in their endeavors. I happen to know and love the wonderful humans that own Dice Drop Tavern and I think they deserve all the hype. The bigger reason is that my next project is…
A TTRPG backstory anthology! Whether you’re playing D&D, a magpie game, Blades in the Dark, Pathfinder, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, etc. everybody needs a good backstory. The anthology will include a little advice section for how to write a backstory and then a selection of backstories I’ve written for characters that I’ve played over the years. The advice section is GM approved (well, at least by a few of them, so far) and will hopefully keep you from making rookie mistakes. The backstories I’ve selected to appear in the anthology have been freshened up, edited, and blessed by the D&D gods to give you bardic inspiration.
I do not have a timeline for you on the backstory anthology yet, but you know how impatient I am. If you’re not a D&D fan, no worries, the anthology can also be read as a collection of fantasy short stories. My next novel has already been spoiled on Threads (that’s where the magic happens), but I will tell you that it’s going to be a murder mystery romance. Maybe vampires.
Much love, and until next time,
Lavender Penner
